A group of teenagers from Oklahoma, who recently vacationed in the Dominican Republic alongside their parents, have fallen ill.
The students, who all graduated from Deer Creek High School located in Edmond, Oklahoma; visited the island in early June with a group of parents who served as chaperons.
Out of the 50 people who went to the Dominican Republic, seven of them have become seriously sick.
The Deer Creek High School graduates all stayed at the now infamous Hard Rock Hotel and Casino where several American tourists have died in the past weeks.
Well, known soccer player Marcos Rojo who plays for Manchester United and his family fled the resort upon discovering the death of the visitors due to mysterious illnesses.
Since the beginning of the year, a total of seven American tourists have died, and some officials believe there is a link to bootleg alcohol beverages sold in minibars.
Liz McLaughlin, a parent, who traveled to the Caribbean country, said the group arrived on Saturday, June 8.
According to McLaughlin, they all ate at a Japanese restaurant at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, and many of them have been in pain and agony due to cramps and constant sweating since then.
McLaughlin revealed that her daughter, Libby McLaughlin , is one of the members of the group who is very sick.
The worried mother had this to say about the situation: “We just don’t know what is happening. Is it the water? Is it the ice? Is it the food? Is it the food handling? Is it the pesticides? We have no idea what’s going on.”
Bennet Hill, who was also hit by the bizarre sickness, added: “I just woke up, and my stomach was cramping, and I was sweating. I was freezing. We’ve been hooked up to IVs since we first got here with antibiotics, just getting hydrated.”
All seven sick people were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where they were given anti-nausea medicine.
McLaughlin explained that they were hoping to return to the United States on Friday, June 14, but it is not known if they were able to fly back.
It has been confirmed that Robert Bell Wallace, a 67, California businessman died during a trip to the island in April.
Wallace, who was staying at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, died days after drinking Scotch from the minibar.
