Senator Kamala Harris wanted to know more about Joe Biden, so she turned to the person who can answer almost all of her questions — Barack Obama.
Harris virtually sat down with Obama for a candid conversation, where she asked the question on everybody’s mind — why is Biden so in love with ice cream?
Of course, Harris tackled the important issues that matter to the American people struggling during the ongoing pandemic in her first interview with Obama.
Biden’s vice-presidential pick opened the exchange with some light-hearted humor by asking: “So tell me about Joe. So tell me about Joe and your relationship with Joe, and what do I need to know? Like what’s the thing about the ice cream. He loves ice cream. Tell me about that.”
Obama did not hold back — he revealed all he knew about Biden’s favorite food and his obsession with aviator shades.
The former president explained: “Well, listen, ice cream is big. Pasta with red sauce. He can go deep on that. He really does like those aviator glasses, and he knows he looks good in ’em.”
Obama rapidly shifted to serious matters by talking about Biden’s passion for serving his country and giving voice to people who are often forgotten by politicians.
Obama also touched on Biden’s biggest quality — his empathy.
The retired Democratic leader stated: “But the main thing to know about Joe is that Joe has never lost his sense of why we do this, and we do it because of you know for him, memories of his family back in Scranton and then the people of Delaware that he represented, the folks on the Amtrak train he met each and every day…His focus is going to be how’s that going to help those people who sent him there.”
Harris has a theory about Biden’s famous glasses: “I love that about him, too. You know folks want to be seen and Joe sees people through those aviator glasses and without them. He really does see people. It’s a very special thing about him.”
The pair also revealed some of the special moments with the people they met on the campaign trail.
Obama confessed: “The other thing that I think for me was always great was those moments, and you never knew when they’d come when you just have a conversation with maybe it’s a security guard in a building or maybe its some young kid who runs up and say they ran for student council and ‘Do you have any advice? Just those interactions, somebody one-on-one.”
Harris added: “People in our country, they really are full of hope, right? There’s a lot that gives them a reason to be concerned about the future, but there’s also a lot that folks just carry in their hearts and their spirit that is truly born out of optimism.”
The video ended with Harris thanking Obama and sending her love to former First Lady Michelle Obama.
