Ric Ocasek, famous for being the lead singer of The Cars, was reportedly found dead in his home in Manhattan.
The singer was 75 years old at the time of his death. He was initially discovered at around 4 pm by his wife, former model Paulina Porizkova, who had separated from him.
Porizkova, 54, and Ocasek were together for 28 years and split in 2018. They have two children together, and Ocasek had put their home on the market in January.
The estranged couple’s sons wrote on social media: “His passing was sudden, unexpected and beyond heartbreaking. Yesterday, we found this last doodle on his armchair. He couldn’t have known what it would end up meaning to us. We love him so much.”
Authorities have not released much information about the incident, but they are treating it as a death from natural causes.
Still, that has not stopped the masses from speculating on what may have gone down, and there has been a lot of discussion about the incident on social media.
As is usual in these cases, some seem to believe that the man’s death was not accidental, but that there is something more to it instead.
This has not been confirmed by authorities so far, and in fact, there have been no statements by officials indicating that this might be the case.
Police said people commenting on the situation online should refrain from making any potentially controversial statements, and have asked everyone to respect the privacy of the late musician and his loved ones.
And as is usual in these cases, the music of The Cars has shot up in popularity after the announcement of the singer’s death.
Many of the group’s fans have taken to social media to reminisce about the great times they have had with the band, and it looks like the singer is getting a proper send-off, just like he deserves in the first place.
One supporter wrote: “So sorry to hear of Ric’s passing. My thoughts are with his family, bandmates, and friends. He was a great talent and inspirator to many. Thanks to The Cars for the amazing music you created. Ric and Benjamin won’t be forgotten.”
Some fans are hoping, nothing bad comes out about the circumstances of his death.
The Cars rose to fame in 1978 with their eponymous debut album which contained hits like “My Best Friend’s Girl” and “Just What I Needed.”
Inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018, The Cars also won the MTV Video of the Year award for the song, “You Might Think,” in 1984.
The group’s last album, Move Like This was released in 2011.
