Tom Cruise is a devout member of the Church of Scientology and according to a penetrating exposé from PEOPLE and countless interviews by Leah Remini, he is willing to sacrifice it all to keep his position in the organization.
According to the publication, the megastar gave up his stunning California mansion for a penthouse in Florida. The reason?
He ditched the $39 million Beverly Hills mansion for an apartment in Clearwater to be close to the organization’s international headquarters.
Locals say that they have spotted Cruise and the church’s controversial leader, David Miscavige, in the area.
It is claimed that Cruise’s deep ties to the church caused the end of his marriages to Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes.
Numerous former Scientologists say Kidman is a Catholic who never truly accepted her ex-husband’s religion. Cruise’s beliefs have reportedly cost him a relationship with his youngest daughter, Suri Cruise.
While Cruise is very close to his adult children — Isabella and Connor — who are part of the Church of Scientology, there are multiple reports claiming that the last time he saw 14-year-old Suri was during his and Holmes’s 2012 divorce.
Mr. Cruise cannot see Suri because the church views her as a “suppressive person” or “SP.”
A Scientology insider told Star magazine that he would love to spend more time with her, but his faith prevents it. Star said Cruise has been interested in reconnecting with his daughter.
The source revealed: “Tom is a loyal Scientologist, so when church leaders told him he couldn’t see Suri, he didn’t question it. He’s had to watch from afar as Suri grew into a lovely young lady, and he regrets that he’s missed out on so much. He’s dying to be a part of her life!”
Remini told the New York Post: “Scientology considers Katie a suppressive person which is an enemy and therefore, Tom believes, like all Scientologists, that he can’t be connected to Suri. I’m sure his master plan is to wait until Suri gets older so that he can lure her into Scientology and away from her mother.”
The King of Queens star went on to reveal: “I knew Katie when she was in [Scientology], and she seemed very indoctrinated into Tom’s world, but as time went on, and I understood why she did what she did to protect her daughter … I’m only assuming that there’s some type of agreement to protect her daughter.”
Cruise, who has been with the church since the 1980s, is now reportedly letting his faith dictates his love life.
Cruise, who has a prominent role in Scientology, has declined to have a new serious relationship since his split from Holmes.
