Actress and businesswoman Taraji P. Henson has confirmed the rumors circulating online for the past weeks — she is single.
The former Empire star revealed that she and her ex-fiancé, Kelvin Hayden, have called off their romance and, subsequently, their engagement.
Rumors started spreading that Henson and Hayden had split after sharing a series of sizzling and almost scandalous photos from her 50th birthday party.
Fans were quick to notice that while Henson, 50, was having the time of her life showing off her bikini body and partying with her pals, her then-future husband was missing from the fun-filled event.
On Monday, Henson did a virtual appearance on The Breakfast Club morning radio show. She explained that she and the former NFL star had gone their separate ways after more than two years of dating.
Henson revealed: “I haven’t said it yet, but it didn’t work out. I tried, I said, ‘let’s do the therapy thing,’ but if you’re both not on the same page with that, then you feel like you’re taking it on yourself, and that’s not a fair position for anybody to play in a relationship.”
Henson declined to say what led to the breakup and instead talked about the importance of self-love.
She shared: “My happiness is not his responsibility, and his is not mine. We have to first learn how to make ourselves happy, to make each other happy. So when one person is taking on the weight of the entire relationship, it’s never going to work. You have to show up, yes you want to be understanding, but you can’t lose yourself in that understanding. You have to still stand up for yourself and be there for yourself, but it’s hard to do if the other person isn’t doing that either.”
Henson and her former lovebird were forced to cancel their wedding that was set for June but rescheduled because of their hectic work engagements.
Fans reached out to Henson after she shared the heartbreaking news. Many told her not to settle. Others claimed that her latest bikini photos would land her another man soon.
A well-wisher had this to say: “She looks so good ? those fiery bikini photos are giving me life. The right man will come along. I love her perspective. No blame. It just didn’t work out. And that’s okay! It’s okay to not work out; I wish people understood that. Praying for their healing.”
This social media enthusiast made this remark: “Glad she did not get on air and start dragging dude name. As she said, sometimes things don’t work out. You live, you learn and move on. Respect it!”
Henson received this uplifting message from a fan who wrote: “That’s so horrible she waited so long to even date someone and went public for it not to work out ? may they both have a positive change of heart and maybe find their way back to each other.”
Henson is also looking for her next big hit after the series Empire ended.
