Chris Watts, born Christopher Watts, 33, the Colorado father accused of killing his pregnant wife, Shan’ann Watts, 34, and their two children — Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3 — is not happy with the way that he is being portrayed in the media.
The suspected killer does not want to be label a monster and believes that people do not understand him, according to someone who has talked to him at the Weld County Jail.
Watts is on suicide watch in his cell where he spends 23 hours a day without TV and things to read. According to PEOPLE, he recently found out in exchanges with guards that his case was covered around the globe and cable news networks are still talking about it.
A source told the publication, “He’s very frustrated. He didn’t know that everyone knows about the case.” The person also added: “He feels like no one understands him, and nobody knows what happened. He thinks if they did understand, they’d realize that he’s not the monster everyone says he is.”
The source concluded by sharing: “He’s not doing well at all. The gravity of the situation has hit him like a ton of bricks. Depression is setting in, and he’s despondent.”
Watts has not yet entered a plea and is expected back in court in November. Watts’ lawyers tried to argue that Shan’ann is the one who killed the children and her husband only strangled her after she did the unthinkable.
Another source recently explained: “The theory that she [Shan’ann] did it doesn’t hold any water. There is absolutely no evidence that [Shan’ann] killed her children.”
The strategy is not working because the prosecutors believe that they have enough evidence to prove that Watts planned the whole thing.
It was reported that Watts was having an affair and a divorce might have been a source of tension for the couple.
