It appears that Amal Clooney and Meryl Streep have more in common than being established professionals in their own fields, as apparently both women have been “married” to Amal’s husband, George Clooney.
Amal recently made headlines for being the recipient of the Gwen Ifill Press Freedom Award. It was no other than the Sophie’s Choice star who presented the accolade to the lawyer at the 2020 CPJ International Press Freedom Awards.
While accepting the prestigious award, the 42-year-old barrister decided to honor the Oscar winner with a sweet message, as she stated, “You are an inspiration as a woman, as an artist, as a press-freedom advocate.”
However, the lawyer also decided to amuse the audience as she went on with, “I know I can’t ever hope to win the number of awards that you’ve won, but it does occur to me that we have something special in common, which is that we’ve both been married to my husband.”
Mrs. Clooney, born Amal Alamuddin, concluded with “And honestly, the fact that you did it as Mr. and Mrs. Fantastic Fox just makes that so much less awkward” in reference to the fact that her spouse and the 71-year-old actress played Mr. Fox and Mrs. Fox in the animated comedy film Fantastic Mr. Fox in 2009.
Amal and George Clooney married in a lavish ceremony back in 2014, and their relationship came as a surprise for many, as the actor has been previously insisting for years that he would never tie the knot and would remain a bachelor.
However, after starting the romance with the human rights activist, the Ocean’s Eleven star confessed that his perspective changed ever since meeting Amal.
Recently, the actor made an appearance on CBS Sunday Morning to promote his new Netflix film The Midnight Sky, where he shared a few intimate details about wife Amal and their 3-year-old twins — Alexander and Ella Clooney.
He said this about the famous human rights attorney: “There is no question that having Amal in my life changed everything for me. It was the first time that everything that she did and everything about her was infinitely more important than anything about me.”
Talking about his children, Clooney revealed how surprised he was to learn that they were having two babies during Amal’s ultrasound.
He shared: “And then we had these two knuckleheads. It is very fulfilling and something I wasn’t at all… didn’t see coming. We never talked about having kids, and then one day we just said, ‘What do you think?’ We go to the doctor, and you do the ultrasound. They’re like, ‘You got a baby boy!’ and I was like, ‘Baby boy, fantastic!’ And they go, ‘And you got another one there.’ I was up for one. Again, I’m old. All of a sudden, it’s two. It’s hard to get me to not talk, and I just stood there for like 10 minutes just staring at this piece of paper going, ‘What? Two?’ ”
Mr. Clooney concluded by saying that he is happy that they have each other.
