A careful store owner used his own gun to defend himself and his property against an armed robber while making sure not to harm a child nearby.
Doyle Stinson, who runs the Decor Furniture located at Bosart Avenue in Indianapolis, Indiana, came face-to-face with a thief on July 5 who wanted a lot of money.
The criminal told Stinson to give up the cash. The businessman said he gave the criminal who was pointing a gun at him the 10 dollars that he had in his wallet.
It was not enough; the man explained: “I know you’ve got a lot more money than that because this is a business.”
Stinson said the man, who was not happy with the amount, demanded to go to the back of the store for more money.
The store owner explained what he did once he got into the storage area: “I hit my silent alarm emergency button.”
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the hardworking man decided to pull his 40-caliber gun on the thief forcing him to run out of the store as fast as he feet could carry him.
Stinson said his goal was to scare the criminal away and that he never had plans to shoot at him for two reasons.
First of all, he knew that the robber’s gun was not loaded and secondly he did not want to injure the little boy he saw playing in front of the store with a stray bullet.
The gun owner with the great heart said this about the child he decided to protect: “If you’re shooting a 40 caliber, it’s going to go through him, through this merchandise, through that window, and what’s beyond that window. He’s got a lot more to live than me. That’s true, that’s a little boy there.”
Stinson opted not to call 911 and chased the criminal instead. He stated: “I jumped in a vehicle before he got in his getaway car. Followed him down 11th and Arlington.”
Police also chased after the suspect but abandoned when the situation became life-threatening for them and the community.
Stinson said he will buy a bullet stopper for his front window.
