Queen Elizabeth II will forever have love in her heart and a soft spot for her grandson, Prince Harry, and will take certain measures not to embarrass him and his wife publicly.
Prince Harry and his spouse, Meghan Markle, traveled to England in late April. Queen Elizabeth granted them a 30-minute private meeting where they had tea and a fascinating conversation.
The 96-year-old Monarch had some conditions before the secret meeting. She asked that the Sussex couple sit down with Prince Charles first.
Soon after having tea with his grandmother, Prince Harry did an interview where he confessed on the TODAY Show that he still has a special bond with her.
He claimed that she revealed secrets he could not share with the media. He told host Hoda Kotb: “Being with her, it was great. It was just so nice to see her … She’s on great form, and she’s always got a great sense of humor with me.”
He noted: “I am just making sure she is protected and got the right people around her.”
After the TODAY Show interview aired, Kotb revealed to viewers what Prince Harry told her off cameras. The TV presenter stated: “He’s [the Queen’s] closest confidant. She tells him things that she doesn’t tell anyone else.”
Many doubted that Prince Harry was telling the truth about his relationship with the aging Queen, especially after her bombshell announcement about her upcoming Platinum Jubilee.
The Queen has decided not to have Andrew, Prince Hary, and Markle, other royals on Buckingham Palace’s balcony during the Trooping the Colour parade.
The move was viewed as a royal snub of the highest kind. However, it seems that is not the case.
To avoid Prince Harry and Markle being embarrassed by the balcony decree, Queen Elizabeth told Prince Harry and his wife beforehand, according to reliable Palace sources.
Royal expert and writer Daniela Elser revealed: “According to The Telegraph, the Duke and Duchess’ team had been told by the Palace about the balcony decree prior to it being made public, and their 11th hour RSVP “is understood to have been a last-minute decision.”
The author went on to explain that the royals were still surprised that 17 minutes later, Prince Harry and his spouse confirmed that they would fly to London with their children to attend the Jubilee festivities.
Queen Elizabeth’s move of reaching out to Markle and Prince Harry seems to confirm what royal biographer Robert Hardman has been saying all along — Her Majesty is “still very fond of Harry” and is “devoted to him.”
While promoting his new book, Queen of Our Times, he told the Washington Post that while the Queen is “sad” about Prince Harry’s exit from his royal duties, she is not all consumed by it, and she has a soft spot for him.
He said: “I think she’s sad about it, but I don’t think it’s all-consuming. She’s still very fond of Harry. There’s the family stuff and the business stuff, and the business stuff is non-negotiable. You can’t do this, Harry. I’m sorry. It’s just the way it is. And her officials will tell his officials that, and those conversations will happen at arm’s length.”
Hardman added: “But he’s still devoted to her, and she’s still devoted to him. They still talk. I’m told he talks to her more often than he talks to anyone else in the family. He’s still quite cheeky and can get away with things that others possibly can’t. She’s got a soft spot for him.”
Prince Harry and his wife will be attending a Thanksgiving Service with the Queen during the Jubilee.
Close allies have revealed that Markle and Prince Harry do not care about the balcony; they are happy for their children to spend time with the Queen.
