During a somber time, Prince William made sure there were a few moments of light and hope with unexpected gestures toward Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The heir to the throne and his wife, Kate Middleton, reached out to Prince Harry and Markle prior to Queen Elizabeth II‘s funeral.
Prince William invited his brother and sister-in-law to take part in a walkabout in front of Windsor Castle.
Many saw it as a selfless gesture to reconnect with his brother and uplift the thousands of mourners gathered to pay their respects to the late Queen.
Several reports claimed that Prince William and Middleton hosted Prince Harry and Markle for a family dinner.
On Prince Harry’s birthday, Prince William, driving home after picking up his children from school, stopped his vehicle to chat with Prince Harry and Markle, whose car was heading in the opposite direction.
However, despite the many interactions and the breaking of bread, the royal renegades and Prince William were unable to reach a peace treaty.
The New Royals author Katie Nicholl revealed to Page Six that the opportunity was misused by the parties who failed to seize on the moment to reconcile.
She told the New York media outlet: “I think it’s very sad [that] in the days Harry was here, there was an opportunity, given they were just a couple of hundred yards away from each other for a meeting or dinner or gathering of some sort where they could actually just try to thrash things out.”
She added: “I’ve had it on very good sources that there was no meeting done privately, and so yes [there was] a missed opportunity but reflective of how intensely both brothers feel about things.”
The trio is carrying heavy baggage containing hurt feelings, resentment, regrets, and frustration that makes it difficult to start the healing process.
The royal author stated: “When you look closely back on it, there’s no real warmth there. There’s no real coming together, and it’s very clear the ‘Fab Four’ are not fab anymore. They were going through the motions.”
She went on to explain how Prince William and Prince Harry’s tough guys’ personalities make it difficult to apologize and move forward as brothers.
She shared: “William can be very stubborn and hold a grudge. Harry is emotional and hotheaded, and they’re both very passionate, and there’s a lack of understanding on both parts and resentment on both parts and anger on both parts that haven’t been able to be placated and worked through.”
It might take a long time before real progress is made in the relationship.
